A Controversial Rule At Olympian High
Something that is most talked about in the student body is having access to the school lockers, or even having school lockers. We do have access to the lockers during Physical Education, but the privilege to use the locker throughout the school day is prohibited. Teachers and the District state that lockers should not be allowed to be used by students - except for Physical Education - because it gives a student a chance to put unnecessary objects in their locker. Even though their claims are correct in some cases, the teachers and staff of the school still have a right to search the insides of the lockers, allowing them to know if there is any inappropriate belongings being kept inside. Besides the fact that lockers allow students to do negative acts, it is also convenient for the students to use when walking around school. If the students have access to lockers anytime, they will not have to carry any other school books that will hold them down during nutrition break, lunch, and passing period, and their personal belongings will be kept safe while they are busy studying and learning in school. In conclusion, I think that the privilege to use lockers during school hours should be permitted because it is an effective and convenient way to store belongings, put less weight on the back, and keep them safe.
