As a student of Olympian High School, I believe that gum chewing should be allowed in school. Some of the students in this school have chewed gum despite the policy and if a teacher caught them, the teacher would ask them to throw the gum away. Students will take half of a minute just to stand up and walk to the trash can to throw away gum. Would someone explain to me how chewing gum in class is bad? The rule has done nothing except waste time because the teacher would have to tell someone to throw their gum away. Yes, chewing gum can create loud noises that distract other students, but someone can always tell that person to chew their gum quietly. There are some high schools today that allow gum on campus and they had absolutely no issues with it. If these schools have no problems with this situation, then so can this school. If the staff has a problem with gum being under the desks, they can ban gum chewing for a week or so. Not only would it help with the cleanliness of the school, it can also help get rid of bad breath, concentrate, etc.
