Hurricane Irene

Hurricane Irene, a tough yet slow moving storm had smashed into North Carolina on Saturday morning then making its way to the Eastern Seaboard. It is the first major hurricane of 2011. Hurricane Irene is causing many damages to the Jersey Shore and the New York metropolitan area. It has caused at least 8 deaths caused by car accidents and falling tree limbs in North Carolina, Virginia and Florida. Despite the deaths there have been many evacuation orders, up to 2 million, and alarms. It has caused widespread flooding, power failures and sustained winds of 85mph to the public. Even public transportation stopped as well. “Everything filled with water, there was just water everywhere,” said Maria Altagracia Fernandez, who spent Monday night sleeping on the floor with her five children and about 100 other people at a local shelter. Most residents never thought that a terrible disaster like this would happen. Luckily, there are many people willing to help those involved with the horrible hurricane and trying to protect the area.
