My name is Devin Pornel and I am 15 years old. I was born in Hazlet, New Jersey on January 6, 1996. I am 3/4 Filipino and 1/4 Chinese, the Chinese part comes from my dad's side of the family. I love dancing, I dance with a dance team named iDK. We usually travel all around California to icompete at several competitions. We recently went to Las Vegas for Hip Hop International. I also enjoy playing basketball. I have never really played on a team, but i enjoy just playing for fun. My favorite season is winter because i hate the heat. My favorite subject in school is History, except world history because it covers to much. I have 1 brother his name is Darwin and he is 21 years old. I am 5"3 and i hope to still grow to at least 5"9. When i grow up i want to be a lawyer, but i still want to continue to dance. I really want to do good in my sophomore year. My goal is to have a 4.0, although that is a hard task to do i feel motivated to do my best to try and get that grade point average. School is also one of my priorities as well as family, friends and dancing.

Hobbies

Hello, my name is Amanda Gidron. My favourite hobbies are photography, gaming, reading, sleeping, listening and editing music. In the picture on the left, is my ukulele, the guitars I currently own, and myself. I have playing for over 6 years and by now, I do not consider it as a hobby. I think of hobbies as things you do for fun occasionally. I believe, once you love something enough, it has moved from a hobby, to something that becomes a part of your daily life. A part of you. One day, I wish to not only play guitar, but to play other instruments as well, like the sitar.

bio Pam Ayala

Hi my name is Pamela Ayala often called Pam by my friends and everybody. I was born on July 20 1996 (15 years), currently a sophmore. I am 5"2 and a half Aztec/Italian/Spanish/and Mexican; not Asian with Brazilian like many poeple think I am. I used to dance but gave it up for cheer(which i just started and actually see it as a sport) it is fun its a great opportunity to embrace yourself, yelling out all your frustrations, and just being yourself. I am not good at playing sports but I do enjoy watching them especially soccer, football, basketball, and wresteling. I love to travel and meet new poeple. I guess it's interesting how we have different personalities yet we all still have a common thread. I dont like to judge other poeple much less being judged. and I always try to see the positive side of everything. I love to try new stuff, things I usually wouldnt do. I am the type of person that fights for what she really wants and almost always obtain it. My grades arent always the best but I promise to this year try harder. I hate to take things too seriously, which i dont know if its a good or bad thing. I still dont really have defined what I want for my future, I have so much more to see and learn. I wont make a definate procedure of my life, I just hope that life will surprise me.

Bio-Gilden Azul

My name is Gilden Azul, I am 14 years old and I was born and raised in Chula Vista, California. I am of Mexican and Filipino descent , when people look at at me I usually get the question "Are you black?" or "Are you Samoan" I always respond with the simple answer of "No" but in a way I can see why people would say that, first of all I am dark, second I am big. As of my name well my first name is my grandpas first name witch is "Gil" and my grandmas first name which is "Eden" so they got "Gilden"  which is also my dads name to but I am not a "True Junior" meaning I do not have his full name which would be the middle name in my case but my dad told me that my first name means "Golden" back in the medieval times when they used the Coat of Arms, as of my last name well surprisingly it is a Spanish color meaning "Blue" which I love a lot and also happens to be my favorite color. What I like to do is play games online, it helps me get my mind of personnel  things that are going on in the family so it is like a hobby for me but I am trying to look for another one as of right now. Also I am a very shy person I honestly do not know how I made friends the way I did, it rather surprises me but I am trying to be less shy but does not mean I am anti-social for me it kind of means that I do not know how to get along or make new friends, I am working on that though. The reason why I chose that picture was because for one I do not have a picture of my self on my computer and two that picture says who I am, I like to play games but does not mean I am a geek I do not even talk about games at all. I am also a Sophomore at Olympian High School and I am looking forward to a great year.

Educational Experience (Late)

My first 3 days of sophomore year was hectic. I got completely different classes except for 2 (witch would be my Filipino and Algebra) I saw my friends that I had not seen in 6 weeks. I was very surprised when we got to work right away. My favorite period might be 5th just the fact that it is P.E. My least favorite period might be 4th because it Algebra I do not like math of any sort just not my thing. I am really looking forward to a good year.

Educational Experience

The first three days of school have been fun. It was a major change since Freshman year. However, it is harder and now we have a little bit more pressure on us because colleges look at our Sophomore year. This last week we did things that I liked and some things I didn't like or thing I'm just not used to. The things I did like are assignments that allow you to work in groups or partners because it is easier when you have some help. The things I did not like are the classes when you just sit down and take notes the whole period without anyone talking. Other than that this past week has been fun and I am looking forward to what the future holds.

Bio

Hi, I am Faisal Imami and I am a Sophomore at Olympian High School. I am a crazy sports fan. I love playing football and soccer and a little bit basketball. The things I love most about my life is my family and friends. Without them by my side I do not know what I would do. Family is my number one priority because family will always be forever when other people can just come and go. However, I play club soccer for Albion. We are a top ranked team in the United States. We are currently ranked number 13 in the Nation. We always encounter big tournaments that will help lead us into college scholarships. We are potentially going to Portugal on a full paid sponsor by Puma if we win our tournament in Minnesota. A couple of teammates and I were invited to go to a camp next year in Brazil and I am looking forward to that.

Educational Experience

Making the transition from vacation to school wasn't that hard. It was cool seeing some of my friends agian and having new teachers and classes. The first week of school is going good so far. I don't have lots of homework and I have PE first period which is a good thing because it's not hot in the moring. The only problem so far is getting some of the homework in on time.
A negative educational experience that I had constantly throughout the year last year was in my history class. Every day the teacher would give us page numbers in the text book tell us to, "read and answer the questions in the back of the book."I really did not like this because I am a more auditory learner, it really helps me to hear new information rather than read it out of a textbook. The teacher seemed like a nice person but he never actually taught me anything for the entire year that I was his student. I didn't do well on the tests or quizzes even though I would read and answer the questions.

Bio-- Patricia Fernando

Hi, my name is Patricia Fernando and I'm a sophomore attending Olympian High School. I am 15 years old, and I'm turning 16 on August 17. I enjoy long walks on the beach, surprises, and chocolate covered strawberries. My main priorities are of course my family, and school. I am currently residing in Chula Vista California, but I was born in the Philippines and arrived at the US when i was 8. My hobbies are playing volleyball, singing, and eating. I played for Olympians girl's volleyball team for freshmen year, coached by Coach Manny, and Coach Segurson. I am filipino, but people say i look hispanic. I think it's because my mom's side is partly portuguese, and my dad's is spanish. I am 5'4 3/4. I used to think dragons were real until I realized that I've never really seen a real dragon before, not even on tv. I'm not a very picky eater, but I don't like the taste, or smell of fish. I think dreams are interesting, how some dreams are relevant to things that occur in real life or what dreams mean at times. I am also fascinated by history and how everything came to be. I like meeting new people, and I think that I'm pretty friendly. I believe that people just misinterpret my facial expressions and assume that I'm mean, but I actually like making new friends. On my free time I like to use the computer to socialize and update myself, or watch disney channel on the tv.

Bio

My name is Alissa Bringas and my favorite hobbies are listening and playing music. In this picture, my last color guard performance has just ended and although I do often miss it, I believe band is my calling. When I see this picture it reminds me how open I am to trying new things, and I'm glad that I am because otherwise I wouldn't have discovered how much I love music. I've played clarinet and this year I'm learning the trombone, and I hope to one day be able to play all band instruments.

Educational Experience

My first three days as a sophmore were quite interesting. For the most part, I was pretty scared to meet my teachers for the first time. The first thing I did when I got my locator card, was I took a picture of it and sent it to my best friend to see if we had any classe together. On the first day, I already took a page of notes on how to greet the teacher in ap world history. But hey, I guess they don't call it ap for nothing. At the end of the week, I came up with a mindset of, "It sucks more to fail a test than to study." Which basically means, you might as well study, get it over with, and pass the test rather than to not study, not pass, and have all this baggage with you.

Bio - Alicia Farmer

My name is Alicia Farmer and the most important thing to me is softball. I started playing about 5 years ago and have been playing all year round since then. I play as pitcher, first baseman, as well as sometimes third baseman. Last softball season, I received the MVP award for JV Softball at Olympian (as the starting pitcher).
I also enjoy drawing in my spare time. I love to stick to traditional pencil drawings, although I do sometimes add color. I am especially good at drawing anime characters as well as other cartoons. However, I have won a blue-ribbon for a portrait I drew of Paul McCartney (which is something I am extremely proud of).
Caption: On the left is the drawing I have done of Paul McCartney and on the right I am preparing to step up to the plate at a Twin Hills softball game.

Bio- Loren Lavadia

My name is Loren Lavadia. I am fifteen and a half years old and was born and raised in the Philippines for 12 years. My family is filled with musicians or other performing artists. Many of my close relatives play multiple musical instruments, sing, or dance. In my case, ever since I was young, I have always loved dancing even though i didn't know basic dance techniques. I just loved the feeling of being free and graceful. Other than that, I also sing but unlike my sister, I only sing at home or at rare occasions since I prefer to showcase my dance skills rather than my voice. I have also played the violin for 2 years but stopped learning a year ago. Last year, I wanted to challenge myself and try different things. At the same time, I also wanted to improve my dance skills. When i've heard of color guard, I thought it would perfectly suit my goal for my freshman year since it included dancing. Even though we didn't do as much dancing during marching season, I did learn some basic tosses with the flag. In addition, I also made great friends with the band and the color guard. During winter guard season, i learned more difficult tosses and more dancing. But along with the stress and bruises, I made great memories and learned not only in dancing and color guard skills but also in working with a team.

This is one of our performances in which we placed first.

Bio - Amy Uyeda

Hello, My name is Amy Uyeda and I'm currently a sophmore at Olympian High School. I was born on October 20, 1996 in the beautiful city of San Digeo, California. Although I enjoy and appreciate the privilage of living in Chula Vista, Paradise Hills will forever be my hood. I'm Filipino and Japanese, which contributes to my small, slanted eyes. I attened confirmation classes every Tuesday at St. Michael's Catholic Church. I may not be a very religious person, but I find that the key to everythig is to keep a good faith. I've been a proud girl scout for 8 years, with the amazing blessing of having my dad as a troop leader. I've come to the conclusion of within those 8 years, my dad and I have grown closer together as he blends in his military morals with everyday situations in order to teach my troop and I, life lessons. My favorite time of year is definitely basketball season. I love everything about it, whether it be the adrenaline rush I get durring pre-game, or the presence of good company while watching a game on tv. I'm a starter for the Olympian Lady Eagles freshman basketball team, which came up undefeated at the end of the season. I'm 5"4 1/2, making me the shortest center on the team. In all honesty, I don't see my basketball team as a "team", but as a second family. When talking about the team, my sisters, or "teammates" always use the word "we" and never "I", which may seem small, but is in fact a very important thing to us. I love how so many friendships have started on the court, and have carried of the court. With the guidance of the almighty Coach Bob, and the willingness to learn, a group of gumps evolved into a team of champions. I will forever be proud to call myself a Lady Eagle.

Bio - Justine Monton

I live with my parents, my older brother, and my dad's mom. A cool fact about my name is that it originated from my both of my grandmas' names. My dad's mom's name is Justina and my mom's mom's name is Rosario; my parents shortened those names to create my name. I'm really interested in photography, however, the camera in that picture belongs to my friend; I'm currently saving up money to buy my own camera. I can't live without my iPod. I listen to a variety of artists, from the Jonas Brothers and Justin Bieber, to The Summer Set and All Time Low. Someday, I'd like to travel the world.

Being on the Olymapian boys basketball team teaches you leadership, perserverence, and how to be a better team player. Being on the team also teaches you not only how to become a better basketball player, but helps your strive to do better in other things that you do.

My Educational experience

During the first week of school, I felt the feeling of... Wow! I missed school, seeing my friends, having new classes and new teachers. As I walk into my classes, I look and see who is in it and saying good morning to my teacher. Overall, my first week of school was great. I look forward to another great year and starting fresh!

My Hobbies ;)

This picture shows me - Meagan Bradley - playing the cymbals at the First Annual Otay Ranch Band Review. I am a percussionist in the OHS Eagle Band and I love the band very much. Last year, I played the cymbals for marching season but, this year I am auditioning for the bass drum. I love being part of the band because it's like a second family and you learn and compete doing something you love. But, I like other hobbies as well. Including, but not limited to, soccer, golf, swimming, and drawing. I played soccer for the school last year and will try out again this year. Golf is a new hobby for me but I plan on trying out to be on the school team. I have not joined the school swimming team but I still enjoy it.

Bio-Briana Hooks

Hi my name is Briana Hooks and I am 15 years old. I was born here in Chula vista and I still live here in Chula Vista. I have 2 younger sisters who really annoy me and i also have an older sister who lives in Temecula who just graduated high school. The only person i am really nice to in my family is my dog because he doesn't talk my ear off or ask me a bunch of dumb questions. I have been playing tennis since i was 4 and I am going to play for the high school varsity tennis team hoping I will be the number one player since last year I was the number 2 player. The reason why i love tennis so much is because it helps me to focus better since i have a hard time focusing and it teaches me about perseverance not to give up even if i am losing by 3 games. I have been practicing everyday for 2 hours with my coach who, i have known since i was 9, from Otay Ranch High School to make sure i will be the number one player and help bring Olympian another banner. In the picture is me at the Barnes tennis center last month after getting 2nd place in a tennis tournament against 4 other girls who are 16 and 18. My goal in life is to go pro at tennis(:

educational experience(late)

the first week of school was really interesting because for one i got new classes and two i got to meet new people. The thing i disliked about the first week of school was that i didn't like the order of each class was in because my first period is intermediate algebra and i really don't like waking up and right away start working on equations other than that everything else was fine. What i really enjoyed about my first week of school was not having to learn anything or have lots of homework.

I have a somewhat large family, 4 sisters and 2 brothers, all older than me. I really only know 1 sister and my brothers. It's hard being the youngest because, of course, my siblings tease me. I also like being the youngest because I get away with so many things. I like to play basketball and tennis, but only for fun. I would like to go to Paris, Madrid, and Rome.

educational experience (Late)

My first week of school was very boring. Although it was cool to see friends again, I was nervous of meeting my new teachers. I disliked learning about the Habits of Mind in my P.E. class, since we went over it last year. Now that the first week of school is gone, I'm more excited to get into the classes.
Isaiah Tapia Bio

Ever since I was a small child there had always been problems with my life. I was always either too small, too skinny, or even too weird. In my family I was always the one with too much stress or had too many things to do at a time. I would always feel like I had the weight of the world on my shoulders. I was always supposedly the smart one, never the fun one or the funniest, always the smart one, hardly athletic. But all of that was just from one look. When people get to know me they see that I am actually very fun, athletic, and not even very smart. Thats why I am always grateful for my family. They see the real me. They don't judge me on what I do or how I do things. Thanks to them I am who I am now; the chill, smart, and best of friends anyone can ever have.

My name is Carolina Limon I am 15 years old. One of my hobbies is dancing Ballet Folklorico I took it last year here at school but I was not able to take it again this year do to the fact that they canceled the class. In this picture I am performing at Sea World for Viva la Musica festival doing a dance from the region of Sinaloa, I performed almost every weekend of May and even though it was very tiring I had a very good time because I was doing what I love. Performing at Sea World was a new challenge for me because it was on a more professional level and the weather conditions, like the air, made it very hard to keep the heavy skirts moving without hitting yourself. I really enjoy dancing folklorico and I am hioping to go on a private company outside of school. But dancing isn't the only thing I do I also play soccer I was on the J.V team last year and hoping to be able to join again this year. I really like being able to do the things that I like.

Hobbies- Danae Villicana

This is a photo of me and my brother, Samuel in Albuquerque, New Mexico on the Sandia Mountain. We, including my parents went three weeks ago to visit family. Every moment my family would see me, my camera (Nikon D3100) would always be infront of my face, like so. I enjoy photography so much and it has been my growing passion since the first camera I recall recieving as a gift at the age of six. It was a huge-- compared to today's cameras-- Barbie brand camera that was pink all over. Though no matter how it looked, I loved it. I love to use the style of tunnel vision in many of my photos; especially when it involves random people I don't know. My favorite hobbie is photography and I hope to be able to learn more about the art of taking pictures everyday.

Educational Experiernce (Late)

On the first week of school I did't care much for anything that had to do with my classes. Although, when I went to my first few classes I saw that this was going to be a great year. The best part of the first week though, was the nail lab in my Biology class. We were put in groups of four or five and started to try to stack eleven nails on the head of one nail. No one succeeded in the lab except for on the second day. The teacher helped us by telling us how to do it. It was the simplest thing ever!
My name is Hannah McCarthy. I am 14 years old but my birthday is on Friday!! I am part of a private dance studio, I dance at least 4 hours a week. My favorite kind of dance is ballet but I have tried it all. Last year I was on the varsity girls golf team! Unfortunately I can not be on the team again this year but I love to play whenever I get the chance! I live with my parents, my older sister, and my dog Sydney. I lived in San Diego until I was 3 when we moved to the house I live in now. My friends and family mean the world to me and I would get nowhere without them. I love to read and write when I'm not doing school work. I know you can't really tell but this picture was taken just before my summer dance recital !

Biography (Diego Florez)

My full name is Diego Enrique Florez and I'm 15 years old. I was born in San Diego, California and i've lived here all my life. I have a pretty big family with 2 siblings and over 20 cousins, i have a younger sister and an older brother. I like to think that me and my brother have a pretty close relationship, we share a room and usually hang out together. Some of my hobbies are that i like to read and draw, you'll notice a lot of doodling on my papers. The picture i used was from a vacation my family took to Cancun, Mexico in 2010. I chose this picture because this was one of my favorite vacations, Cancun was like paradise and i hope my family can take another trip there again.

Educational Experience(Late) Diego Florez

An educational experience I liked/dislike the first week of school was that in english class we had to make a poster describing how the Academic Literacy Plan helps us in school and life. The problem that i had with that is how we couldn't ask Mr. Salazar for any help on it and that we had to decipher how we thought it should be done. The part i did like though was how this forced our group to collaborate more and really think about what the Academic Literacy plan actually means. In the end i believe my group and i did a great job on the poster and presenting it in class.

Bio - Emily Echevarria

My name is Emily Echevarria. I am 15 years old, and in my second year of high school. I moved to California five years ago from my home state of Virginia. I have a rather large family, which includes two older brothers, one older sister, two baby half sisters, my mom, my step dad, as well as my deceased father. Even though he is gone, I still consider him part of my family. I really wish to visit his homeland of Puerto Rico someday… he still has some siblings living there that we could visit! :)

In this picture, I am doing an activity known as cosplaying, which is dressing up as a character from a show that you enjoy. This is normally done at Comic Con or anime expos, but those are expensive and not always available. Because of this, a few of my friends and I occasionally go to Otay Ranch mall, or parks – such as Balboa Park – in cosplay outfits. In addition to this, I also enjoy sports. My favorite sports include track, snowboarding, and ice skating. I also have quite an obsession with staring at stars in open, dark areas. My true passion, however, is drawing. I love drawing everywhere, and on just about anything, as you can tell by the doodle on the side of my picture. I am an aspiring artist, and I intend on creating my own anime and/or comic series when I get older. I hope to attend an art university in New York for two years, and then join an international program to study the art of several cultures, and improve my own skills.

Simply put, I am me. That is the most accurate way to describe myself. :)

Bio - Andre Estacio

Hi, my name is Clhanad Andre Estacio, but I go by Andre. My birthday is June 21, 1996. I was born in the Philippines and I moved here when I was about 11 months old. I live with my parents, grandparents, and my loving dog, Maui. Unfortunately, I'm an only child, but it gives me time to spend time with my family, friends, and most of all, myself. Relaxing is the first thing that I do - well, when I'm done with my homework - when I get home. But when I'm not relaxing, I take photos/film and skate. The first picture shown is a hobby of mine, which is photography/filming; the second picture shown is me skating. I usually do these activities in my free time, or when I need to relieve some stress. I may not be the person who likes long walks on the beach, or surf in my free time, but I'm the person you won't regret meeting.

Bio-David Nguyen

My name is David Nguyen, born and raised in the South bay area for 14 years. My birthday is September 11,1996. I live with my two loving parents and my one annoying, ten year old brother. I go to Olympian High School, where the teachers are unique and the students cool and mellow. My likes are video games, working out, throwing around the football a couple times, the computer, throwing people in judo, hanging out, and eating California Burritos. Other than that, I am a normal, mildly interesting teenage boy that wants to join the FBI one day.

Bio- Gabriela rodriguez

My name is Gabriela Rodriguez. I am 15 years old. I enjoy playing varsity soccer for my high school team. I have been playing soccer since I was four.I find soccer to be a great sport because it keeps you in shape, players learn leadership, it teaches you sportsmanship, and the team is bonds as a family.Yet most of all it teaches me to persevere.Without soccer and the support of my family  I wouldn't be the person I am today.

Educational Experience

During the first day of school I was ecstatic to find out my classes and meet my teachers. At first, I felt that it would be a hard time to get used to my fellow classmates. Thankfully, most of my teachers had us introduce ourselves to a good amount of people. I really liked how we all took the time to meet our new classmates. I also liked most of the easy expectations of all my teachers. Although, I was really surprised how I already was given a ton of homework the first two days! That's when it hit me that we were back to school and that means no more lacking off. Sophomore year is definitely going to be more challenging than Freshman year and I am prepared to work twice as hard. I know that all my hard work will pay off at the end.

Bio

My name is Glaiza Julian and I was born on June 7,1996 in the Philippines. I moved to the United States when I was 3 and lived in Washington state for a good three years before deciding to move to San Diego. My life is composed of my family,my friends, and school.I have one younger brother who has recently started the first grade. My father is in the Navy and my mother works in a dialysis. Some activities I like are taking long walks on the beach, watching the sunset, and lighting a few candles in the room while I read romance novels. In the picture to the right I am accompanied by my very good friend Yuuki Aotake in the MPR.Other than that,I'm not a hard person to work with and I tend to work better with the support of my peers.

My name is Ana Duarte. I am 15 years old and I was born in November 28, 1995 in Tijuana. I have an older brother who is an architect. I took dance lessons for nine years. My favorite sport is volleyball, and in my free time I like to read, and go out with my friends.
In this picture I am in Guerrero, Mexico located in the south west of Mexico. I went there with my mom and my uncle last spring break. On that day we went to the Grutas de Cacahuamilpa, which are huge caves 1.3 miles long. After that we went to Taxco which is a city known for its silver products.

Hobbies :)

This picture is a picture of the cast of Beauty and the Beast singing a song of worship before going on stage. Theater is my passion and my love, acting is like nothing else. I act in a group called CYT or Cristian Youth Theater, we do many different plays and as I said before this is a picture of the cast of Beauty and the Beast. As a religious theater group we sing a worship song before each show to "bless" the show, and it is one of the most amazing times. I love the time just before the show when spirits are high and nervousness is just setting in. In this picture you can see some of the different costumes and some of our really cool make up. If you look in the upper left hand corner you can see one of the main characters, Lefou. I love this picture because I really think it captures the love and happiness that my acting brings me. I love acting and it is my hobbie.

Bio - Mr. Salazar

My name is Alex Salazar.  One of the things that I enjoy most in my life is teaching.  Here in this picture, I am featured with two AVID tutors from San Diego State University and several of my students--both juniors and seniors.  We are working in tutorial groups with the assistant of our great tutors.  On this particular day, I was smiling because I was very much satisfied with the students' work.  Passion and love best describe how I feel about teaching.

An Educational Experience

On the first day of school I discovered that I had AP Biology on my schedule, a class that I specifically asked my counselor to not give me. When I showed up to the class, I was completely unprepared and lost; there was a summer assignment that most of the students had already begun and and all of them looked like they belonged in that class. I did not. I had never felt more stupid, but was comforted by the idea that this was a mistake on my counselor's part and she had to fix this. As I sat there and listened to how the class was run, I was able to get an idea of what to expect for the year to come, the year in which I would sign up for this class and show up prepared. At first I considered this a bad educational experience, but I have come to the conclusion that this was actually a positive one and now I know the level of difficulty of this class that I plan on taking.

Educational Experience

An educational experience I had this first week of school was in English class when we got to work in groups to show how the college readiness skills help us accomplish the mission of our school. I' m glad we could work in groups so we could all share our ideas and opinions and do a better job.

Eduacational Expierience

This first week of school has been very interesting. I haven't been in long enough to have any bad things happen. However, this week has been fun. I got to see which friends I have in each class. I got to learn more about my new classes and got to meet my teachers. My schedule fits to my liking and there hasn't been a class I wouldn't change.

educational experience

My classes this year seem a bit more challenging like in my Spanish class with Ms. Munoz she told us she speak Spanish and English during class and we have to understand what she saying . Which is good practice for everyones Spanish. What I disliked in one my classes that in my world history class we my teacher would give us an assignment and we have really think about it which I think good but it can be hard as well. Overall my first week went pretty well I like all my classes so far.

educational experience

This first week of school has been very exciting as in seeing my friends again, being in new challenging classes, and meeting my new teachers.Though there has been some moments that I couldn't bare. When i arrived to my first geometry class I found that our school still hasn't hired a new teacher for my class. Instead they left a sub for a week, without having enough desks in the room with all the kids, and also leaving us with many algebra worksheets. Which leaves me and my classmates behind while all the other students are ahead learning geometry. Luckily we will have a new teacher on Monday, i hope

Educational Experience

My first week of school was fairly okay. I have a great class schedule (besides the fact that I have math first thing in the morning) and it is always good to see your friends again.
One thing I disliked in the first week, was the P.E. presentation for the Habits of Mind on Friday. This year, and even the previous one, it felt like they were repeating themselves over and over. I felt it was almost impossible to give my full attention to them. Maybe it was because I saw the powerpoint last year or that I heard the exact same thing from other classes for three days straight. I understand that the College Readiness Skills can help you, but having to listen to what seems like the same exact lecture is quite boring (I swear I can almost memorize what they are about to say). The only time I liked learning about it this year was when we created posters in English and left it to our interpretation on explaining the College Readiness Skills.
Possibly I was just too tired (still adjusting) to listen to another Habits of Mind speech, but I am glad we can get started on our actual learning and begin week two.

My Educational Experience

My first week of school was wonderful! I found all of my classes very interesting and am excited to learn more about each subject. I am especially excited to learn AP World. It seems very interesting. It surprised me that we already have homework, but I suppose it is to be expected as a sophomore. Im excited to continue learning in each of my classes.

Identify yourself or else I cannot give you credit.
Thank you

Oh sorry! This is Monique Geisen.

Educational Experience

this first of week of school that just past I really enjoyed getting settled into my new classes. it was a change from my old classes. i really liked all of my teachers this year, contrary to last year. I hope i continue liking them and their teaching style as the year progresses. i'm excited to be learning new things. Although i'm not a fan of the homework, but who is really? i hope this year is a good one.

My Educational Experience

For some reason my first week was somewhat of a blur. Between being very tired and still feeling summer bound, all I wanted was to go home and take a nap. During the summer I was very curious as to which classes I would be in, with whom, and with which teachers. Around the end of Freshmen year I asked current Juniors which teachers to get and the good and the bad habits of each. I was happy to finally find out that most of the teachers I currently have are the ones I was hoping to get. That would definitely be what I most liked about my first week back at school. I'm happy about all my teachers, sans one-- my spanish teacher. Last year I had her and didn't quite like her, having her again this year would more than likely fall into the category of "dislike", for my educational experience of my first week of school. All in all, I hope to have a good year and to continue to work hard in all my classes-including my spanish class.

Educational Experience

These first couple of school days have been fun. I'm still kind of trying to get into the groove of things (i.e. going to sleep at a reasonable hour) but, otherwise it's been good. As a member of the OHS drum line I was especially excited to see who the new members were. When I walked into the Percussion class I saw quite a few new faces, all of which looked really nervous. I introduced myself to all of them and tried to make them feel more at ease. It was a lot of fun trying to teach them how to play and such. I think they will work hard and it will be a good year. :)

Educational Experience

To my dismay, my first week of sophomore year was extremely boring. I was caught off guard by having to take notes so soon in the year, especially about the ALP. In AP World History, we are all ready beginning to learn material, which is quite surprising to me. However, I'm sure the year will continue to bring new experiences. :)

Educational Experience

During the first week of this school, most of my teachers taught us the rules and expectations for their classes and afterwards, we started to take notes. Taking notes is necessarily something I dislike, but I think it's kind of boring to start the year of like this. It was different in my English though. After Mr. Salazar's introduction, we already started to work on a group project. Making a presentation on the College Readiness skills was a great experience, and I enjoyed working with some of my classmates. It was fun and I hope we can do more of these projects in the future.

Educational Experience

An educational experience I had that I enjoyed is during Chemistry Honors all we had done is look at videos or animations and then take notes during it to learn about lab safety.

Rather curt, and how can I give you credit?  Identify yourself.

My Educational Experience

Last year, I didn't do pretty good with my grades. This year is different. As the first three days of school passed by, I found out that I have to develop good habits and consistency. I went to school thinking that It would be easy, but as I got handed my assignments, I realized that my academic skills are in need of polishing. Easy equations in math are hard to solve, important events in history are harder to memorize, and even my attention span is getting shorter. Now that I think of it, the first three days of school weren't as easy as I thought. I wanted to get better and not be the same student that I was last year, and use my past mistakes to prevent me from repeating history. School is challenging and demanding, but if I put my time into it, develop good habits, and follow through with the school years ahead, school will be a breeze.

My educational experience

My first three days of Sophomore year was very overwhelming, in my opinion. In my APWH class, Ms.Hadi started our class off with explaining her high expectations. She also started quickly by teaching us about world geography and other things we would have to know to be able to understand the course better. Not only was it in that class that everything started to be taught right off the bat, but mostly all my classes are starting in a very quick pace.Im still in the process of grasping this quick pace of learning and trying to get things completed faster. The beginning of sophomore year is definetly different from freshman year. I have twice the work and unfortunately, less time. Im still trying to accept the fact that I have to put my best effort into assignments, and spend a lot of time in classes such as APWH and accelarated english. Im dedicated to having good grades for each class and keeping a decent GPA for the whole year. The first week of school was a good wake up call for me to get it together and to actually get things done in time.

My Educational Experience

When my schedule changed and finally got Advanced Dance in one of my classes, I was excited and couldn't wait until 6th period. But when i looked at who my teacher will be, I was in shock that I didn't see Ms. Garcia's name but instead saw "Teacher F". I was quite confused and my peers told me that she got fired and another teacher from Otay Ranch High School took her place. My excitement went down and i became curious of how this new teacher will be. Later on, I saw some people that I honestly don't think that they deserve to be in this class. One of the reasons that this has happened was because there were no auditions when there was supposed to be one. When we entered the dance room, she was wearing her tennis shoes and just lets other people wear their shoes too. To me, it seemed disrespectful to the dance room and Ms. Garcia would never allow us to do such thing. As she was talking about the overview of the course, it sounded like the dance class became more of a P.E. class rather than a performing arts class. I was a little aggravated about that and I was just used to Ms. Garcia's way of teaching, even though I only had her for a year (but i spent more time with her than most of he Beginning Dance students last year since i was also in Color Guard). When she gave us a break, some students from the advanced class last year danced to one of Ms. Garcia's choreography. I looked at her and saw a slight smile. I felt quite sorry for her because it appears to me like she's a bit guilty because the teacher that we all wanted is not there and she's the replacement. Although, it's not her fault and it's also not Ms. Garcia's choice to leave. So I just fully accepted that we have a new teacher and things will be very different. I know the class that i look forward to everyday won't be the same anymore but I rather have the chance to dance and perform. I'll just think if this as making Ms. Garcia proud and I hope I'll see her during field show performances.

Educational Experience

The first "week" of school,I learned many new things to start off my Sophomore year.In my APWH class with Ms.Hadi, she already had us taking down notes. It was a fun experience because I was really starting to get a grasp of her expectations in class. The atmosphere of her class was intimidating to begin with, but I know further in to the school year I will really gain a feel to her standards. All my teachers were friendly, really, they were.Something I disliked took place in my Intermediate Algebra class. When we reviewed Algebra 1 concepts,I was dumbfounded to the sight of concepts I've learned already, but forgot after middle school. My teacher made it very complicated because she had different methods of teaching in comparison to what I've learned.Other than that,my first week of school had very scintillating teachers and respectful peers.

P.S I think Mr.Salazar is the best teacher ever :')

Academic Literacy Plan

How effective is the Academic Literacy Plan?  I am told to teach systematically and I believe this is the best way for an entire school to teach a set of 6 skills and 3 habits to a school that has over 1800 students.  Others may argue that this systematic approach of teaching inhibits a teacher's creativity within their classroom or does it?
