Cassius

So far, from what is known about Cassius in the play, Julius Caesar, is the fact that he was a manipulative general who was hungry for power.  Cassius's relationship to Caesar is very tense because Cassius is a firm believer of Caesar as being his equal, not a king who would rule above him. His observing personality allowed him to manipulate Brutus and use his loyal personality to Rome, against Brutus to trick him into believing-- or at least beginning to believe-- that soon Caesar will gain enough power and will lead Rome not as a democracy but as an empire.  The fact that Cassius uses conniving techniques to convince Brutus shows a dark element of himself that may possibly be due to jealousy or greed for power. Moreover, Shakespeare uses Cassius's personality as a character foil towards Brutus in Act 1 Scene 2, and towards Casca Act 1 Scene 3 to emphasis on contrasting personalities in the play Julius Caesar.
