Hurricane Irene made its first strike on U.S. land last Saturday and has been causing problems for the East Coast ever since. Millions of people have lost their homes, roads and infrastructure have been destroyed, many people have been killed or injured, and rebuilding is going to take an enormous amount of help. The hurricane has led to the cancellation of flights and trips, leading to catastrophic losses for companies. The entire country will be affected economically for this disaster, the lack of resources and insurance will be costly to taxpayers in unaffected locations. The damages add up to approximately 2 billion to 7 billion dollars and due to the debt of the The National Flood Insurance Program, the largest flood insurance provider in the nation, taxpayers will be the main providers. The east coast, although costly and time consuming to clean up, should receive every bit of help they can get.
